Winter wardrobe heroes
Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh dears :) jummah mubarak!
Today I didn't have anything to do, minimal chores and stuff, so as it is snowing lightly, I headed for a small walk to enjoy the cold. Yes, I do enjoy the cold. I like how the frost bites your cheeks a bit, and can use the fluffiest puffer mittens without them being too hot. The snow makes everything beautiful and people seem more calm, just doing their thing. And it's nice to come back in and have a hot cup of tea.

I promised last time to bring out my winter wardrobe heroes, and here they are :)
1. Black college pants
I don't work or study, so I hardly have to look presentable. So I basically live in these college pants. I bought them years years ago from the local supermarket, and they have stayed as new all these years. These goes with tunics, long shirts and knits, and it's easy and comfortable to wear leggings under them for extra warmth.
2. Shirts + knit vest
Shirts are nice to layer with an open side knit vest. It's warm, but not too warm if the weather is more close to 0 degrees. Minus for the ironing, I am not a fan but I do it when I have to, hehe.
I'll use these same shirts in the summertime too.
3. Oversize sweater
This sweater goes nicely under a wool coat in temperatures like today, -8 and more. The oversized fit is so comfortable, can layer a top or a thin turtleneck under it if needed. It's not wool, but I will wear it since I have it already in my wardrobe.
4. Balaclava
So nice to wear to protect your ears from the cold. I think it's perfect with hijab. Sometimes I also wear it like a neck warmer and put the hood down.
...
Then a couple interesting abaya brands that I have seen in social media:
1. AYWA
Founded by Waqaas Ahmed, based in the UK. They have beautiful abayas made out of natural fabrics. Price range is not affordable for me, but maybe for some. Slow, wholesome modest fashion.
Another wholesome brand, based in Germany. They make headscarves, khimars, bonnets and abayas from organic cotton. I love the wrap abaya, it would be so nice for summer.
3. Qadr Modesty
Also a modest, conscious new hijab brand, exclusively made of natural materials. They haven't launched yet, the launch is in Spring 2026. I joined the mail list out of curiosity - it's interesting to see what they come up with :)
I think it's really time for sustainable abayas, made from cotton or other natural fabrics. I'm happy there's now many options to choose from.
I haven't worn an abaya for a long time, I used to. It was my go-to outfit to anywhere, from wedding to tropical jungle, or going to market, meeting friends, and work. I just kinda changed into pants. Maybe I'll get inspired to wear one again, in sha Allah.
...
Now I gotta go, I'm late for prayer and then I'll start cooking. I hope for a blessed day for you!
Later then,
Aisha
